Back from San Diego...

...but all the pictures I took were on my phone. So while I wait for it to charge so I can email the pictures to myself and post about The Talents of Niece A, I will show you what has been done on the Sprite Restoration Caper while I was gone.

The cabinet that supported the sofa (called a gaucho in a trailer for some reason) was taken out and so was the closet next to the portapotty room. So the whole thing was empty and EE was able to pull up the gray flooring.
Leaving this...

Once the flooring was all out, he then took up the plywood subfloor (3/8 inch plywood-can you believe it? So now it looks like this inside...The next step is to have a welder from work look at it and he will probably put in a little more metal to support the floor (left to right). The lengthwise supports in the picture you see are wood. Then... I'm not really sure. We really don't know what we are doing! But there are other blogs and discussion groups and people to get advice from as we go. It seems this is a project where you get on-the-job training!

Here are the logos of the Sprite. We haven't been able to find many like it in the US. They were made first in the UK and then started to be sold here in the 70s. I have found a few references to Sprite Caravans (because that is what they call trailers across the pond), but none about Alpine Sprite travel trailers.

Jeez Louise...what's left?! Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a new caravan? Oh no, wait, that wouldn't be as much fun!

So true! They started making the old Shasta again last year. It has a retro look inside and the old wings on the outside. I don't know. I think that kind of retro is for twenty somethings who call it "mid-century modern."
