Lawns

Yesterday we went to a talk about eliminating your lawn. I will talk more about what was said, including the "recipe" for a native plant lawn. I am excited about that idea since we do use our lawn and I would like an alternative grass, not a replacement for the lawn. But this morning I am off to give my last final so I am going to leave you this website about a study of US lawns. It is interesting to see a scientific look at the subject rather than the "lawns are evil" vs. "we love lawn" dichotomy. As a recent convert to native plants I recognize a definite tendency to characterize non-natives as evil! However, I love almost all plants (including my back lawn) and don't want to give them up!! Plus, the evil-good characterization is rarely helpful. (Except maybe in the case of ivy!!)
