Besides tricks and treats, Halloween is a reminder to GET YOUR BULBS!
I usually plant them quite late (after Thanksgiving and sometimes after finals!), but if I wait until then to buy them, I'm stuck. The online companies are no longer shipping and the stock in most stores is pretty sad by then. I have mostly given up on tulips--like tomatoes, they are just disappointing in our climate. But as with tomatoes, I'm sometimes tempted again! This time I resisted, though. I bought daffodils, hyacinths and a crocus mix at Old House Gardens. They're having a sale and since much of the country plants bulbs earlier than us, many items are sold out. I did better than last year. Last year, by the time I remembered I wanted bulbs, they weren't shipping anymore.
